Flower Care & FAQs

Why freeze dry?

Answer: Flowers preserved with out freeze-dried method retain their natural shape, size and color. Freeze-drying is considered to be one of today's most natural ways of preserving your memories for a keepsake.

How long does the process take?

Answer: Each order receives careful handling, processing and designing. Therefore your keepsake should be ready in about 14-18 weeks (depending on the availability of the container you choose).

Is freeze-drying expensive?

Answer: Prices begin at $50 for an ornament encasement. Depending on the type of keepsake, size of the display container (i.e. frame, dome or shadow box) we will be happy to quote larger arrangements based on your individual selections.

How far in advance should I order?

Answer: When you decide to have Naturalistic Flower Preservation create your keepsake, contact us to discuss your ideas and reserve a space in our freeze dryer. It is especially important to give us a couple weeks notice for wedding flowers so that we can reserve ample space for your bouquet.

When do you need my flowers?

Answer: The fresher your flowers are, the better the process works, which is why we request that you reserve a space in advance. Also, please keep in mind that freeze-drying produces the highest quality preservation, but the process cannot improve individual flower quality once they have begun to deteriorate. Therefore, we will work with you to ensure that your flowers are placed in our freeze dryer just as quickly as possible.

Does flower color fade?

Answer: Some darker colors will deepen, and white flowers will turn cream (antique) in color. Occasionally, some tinting may be recommended to enhance your flowers' Naturalistic beauty.

How to prepare fresh flowers for the freeze-drying process:

flower_careIt is important to remember the freshest flowers produce the most beautiful result.

Re-Hydration is key to keeping your important flowers as fresh as they can be.

For hand-tied bouquets: After the event, keep the flowers in a vase or other container covered with slightly warm water. Be careful not to saturate the blooms.

For Bouquets in Holders:  Hydrate by gently watering the Oasis (flower foam). Be careful not to get the flowers wet, as their colors could change.

Boutonniere: May be placed in closed baggie (zippered or tied).

Other treasured flowers:  Lightly spray with fresh water and deliver to Naturalistic Flower Preservation. Do not saturate them, which can cause discoloration or limpness.

After re-hydration, your flowers can be refrigerated. If you will be delivering them in the Summer, remember not to leave them in the car with the air conditioning turned off.

Caution: Be careful NOT to freeze your flowers!

Nature is not perfect--but bruised or crushed petals can also be integrated into the design. Some imperfections can also add to the naturalistic quality of your keepsake, but please try to keep them in the best possible condition for the best results.roses-longstem
